(01) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position title: Peptide Sequence Motifs for Pathogen Targeting Postdoctoral Fellow
Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) have the capacity to alter the operation of the membrane barrier, successfully killing bacteria, viruses, and even cancer cells. As a result, AMPs have emerged as attractive candidates for the development of a new therapeutic class. The bulk of known AMPs, however, are poisonous due to their origin from human-unfriendly sources, such as venoms. Furthermore, our understanding of peptide targeting mechanisms towards specific diseases and their membranes is still inadequate, limiting future progress in this sector. This ERC-funded study seeks to find peptide sequence motifs responsible for pathogen targeting while causing little damage to human cells. We will explore the effect of membrane local curvature in conjunction with the lipid content of membranes.
The main tool will be Gromacs-based molecular dynamics simulations with free energy calculations. In-house experiments will supplement these models by providing critical verification and feedback on peptide-membrane affinity. The knowledge gained will guide the development of novel peptides with greater pathogen-targeting selectivity.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow in Functional Genomics group
A post-doctoral job is available in Dr. Michal’s group to work on research aimed at identifying novel targets for leukemia therapy, notably AML and CLL. The research team is investigating molecular processes that are essential for malignant cells and/or cause resistance to current targeted medicines. More importantly, we’re looking into how to use resistance mechanisms to create new personalized therapeutics. We are looking for an experienced cell biologist, molecular biologist, or biochemist to conduct large-scale drug screens and genome-wide CRISPR/Cas9 cellular screenings, as well as in-depth validation of screening hits and detailed elucidation of molecular mechanisms. We are looking for a creative, self-motivated individual with demonstrated research experience relevant to this post. Candidates with a solid background in cancer biology and personalized medicine are urged to apply.
