(01) PhD Degree – Fully Funded
Ph.D. position title: Ph.D. student in limnology with a focus on the climate footprint of macrophytes
Most rivers have severely damaged ecosystems, but there is a significant effort underway to rehabilitate them. Stream and river restoration involves the creation of wetlands and the removal of dams, which helps biodiversity and water quality. Both restoration practices include the growth of aquatic plants (macrophytes), which can be significant greenhouse gas producers but can absorb carbon and hence operate as carbon sinks. The entire climatic footprint of macrophytes is currently poorly known. The CLIMIPHY project will investigate the greenhouse gas emissions and carbon sequestration of various macrophyte species and communities in order to help river restoration practitioners design plantation schemes that maximize the intended benefits for biodiversity and water quality while leaving a small carbon footprint.
Deadline: 23 October 2023
(02) PhD Degree Scholarships:
PhD position summary: Mathematical Analysis of Partial Differential Equations with connections to Deep Learning
A Ph.D. student’s responsibilities are mostly focused on their own research education, which lasts four years. Other departmental activities, mostly linked to teaching undergraduate courses, may be included in a limited amount, and the job may be prolonged for a maximum of five years. The student is automatically admitted to the WASP Graduate School and is expected to engage in the courses and activities offered. The mathematical study of PDEs, particularly diffusion equations, will be the primary focus of the research, with an emphasis on linkages to deep learning. Nonlinear parabolic and elliptic PDEs are also interesting. In terms of methodologies, the research will mostly focus on pure mathematics, although it may also contain numerical and computational components.

PhD position summary: PhD student in experimental brain tumor research
The primary objective is to investigate and target locally invasive glioblastoma (GB) edge cells in order to create a novel creative therapy for the incurable brain tumor glioblastoma (GB). GB is the most common and severe primary malignant brain tumor, and most patients die within a year of being diagnosed with a tumor recurrence that develops in close proximity to the previous tumor’s resection cavity. While GB bulk cells have been extensively examined, little is known about peritumoral GB edge cells. The project’s goals are to collect, grow, and study GB edge cells for functional, molecular, and bioinformatic studies in order to characterize their intra- and intertumor heterogeneity, biology, and vulnerability. We will design treatment techniques to target GB edge cells based on this information.

(04) PhD Degree – Fully Funded
Ph.D. position title: Ph.D. position in Translational Autoimmunity
We are searching for a highly driven individual who can work both alone and together with different organizations. The candidate should be enthusiastic about pursuing a Ph.D. in immunology with an emphasis on autoimmunity. The Translational Autoimmunity group’s research programs, led by Nils Landegren, investigate processes in autoimmune and unexplained disorders. The study is divided into two primary themes: 1) large-scale investigations of autoantibody reactions to better understand disease processes and enhance diagnostics, and 2) studies of genetic variables and hormonal states that impart sex differences in immune-related disorders.
Deadline: 27 September 2023
(05) PhD Degree – Fully Funded
PhD title: PhD position in Genomics
We generated whole genome sequencing data on Atlantic herring, Darwin’s finches, and other species. Bioinformatics analysis will be utilized in this Ph.D. thesis to investigate how natural selection creates genetic diversity and how this leads to adaptability. The selected individual will conduct research and pursue PhD studies. Other departmental functions, such as administration and teaching, may be included in the employment up to a maximum of 20%.
Deadline: 27 September 2023
(06) PhD Degree – Fully Funded
PhD position summary/title: Pharmaceutical sciences
The doctorate study seeks to expand the understanding of innovative excipients for spray-dried inhalation medications. The key issues are whether the excipients can improve the inhalation powders’ storage stability and capacity to produce aerosols upon administration. The study will be mostly experimental, focusing on the manufacture of inhalation powders by spray drying and the characterization of the prepared materials. Depending on the applicant’s interests, the study may also include theoretical investigations, such as mathematical models of particle production. In addition to research, teaching and administrative jobs within the department are possible.
