Scholarship Support:

As part of the program, successful candidates will get the following:

1. The ADA Summer School offers two week-long courses.
2. A preparatory course (03–05 January), as well as a one-day course, are available (12 January).
   Stellenbosch self-catering accomodation.
3. On Sunday, January 13th, transportation will be provided to the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town.
4. If applicable, return an economy ticket to and from Cape Town International Airport.
5. Ground transportation to and from the International Airport of Cape Town.
6. As a gesture of good faith in support of their Ph.D. applicant, we propose that the candidate’s home institution pay the candidate’s daily subsistence allowance and, if necessary, visa expenses.

*Please note that any travel changes or additional nights’ stay is at your own expense. The delegates’ flights are decided by the home institutions where they are registered. The lodging is student-style, but it is within walking distance of the venues and includes a kitchen.

**Students at Stellenbosch University will not be given this option; flight travel will be arranged through their home institution.

Entrance Requirements:

The following requirements must be met by applicants:

• Stellenbosch University is once again pleased to be able to offer complete scholarships (fees, flights, and lodging) to delegates from all around South Africa and Africa, as well as a limited number of grants to SU applicants located in Stellenbosch.
• Eligible candidates can be from any discipline and must be enrolled at their home institutions by February 2022 for no more than 12 months.
• To minimize repetition, if your application is contingent on the bursary, we recommend that you wait for the outcome before applying.
• Candidates who are registered at Stellenbosch University can apply through this stream; we have a section for you to declare your affiliation with the university.
• Candidates from Africa will be given preference.

English Language Requirements: Applicants whose first language is not English are typically required to demonstrate fluency in English at the University’s higher level.

Necessary Documents:

If you do not provide all of the needed documentation, your application will not be deemed complete. If you don’t upload all of your papers, you won’t be able to submit the form.

1. A 300-word explanation explaining why you would benefit from the residency in general and how the workshops are chosen would help you complete your degree successfully.

4. A letter of approval or a report from a referee
5. On university letterhead, with your supervisor’s signature and the existing (home) supervisor’s or department head’s endorsement of the applicant’s application.
6. This will serve as confirmation that the applicant’s plan to attend the ADA’s Summer School has been approved by the applicant’s home supervisor.
7. If your supervisor, in addition to endorsing your application, also presents your case and your suitability for the program, we will give you an extra point during the review process.
8. If possible, provide proof of registration; otherwise, a separate motivation from the home supervisor, confirming registration by February 2022, is necessary.
