PhD position summary/title: Doctoral student in AI Machine Learning in Ship Hydrodynamics
The project’s scope includes the incorporation of AI and ML approaches in the field of ship hydrodynamics. As part of the proposed digital design process, the primary focus is on developing a digital ship design process, building a geometry modification process for ship hull form design, developing a basic decision support system for ship hydrodynamic design, and implementing artificial intelligence machine learning methods in ship hydrodynamic design. The project intends to improve the efficiency and accuracy of these critical components of ship design by employing AI-driven methodologies, ultimately leading to more sustainable and technologically advanced vessels in the maritime sector. The project aims to push the frontiers of ship hydrodynamics and harness the power of machine learning to improve ship design practices.
Deadline: December 15, 2023
(02) PhD Degree Scholarships [Fully Funded]
PhD position summary/title: Doctoral student in Future Ship Design for Decarbonization
A Digital Twin (DT) is being created as a next-generation solution for ship design and operational optimization in the present project, which offers an open virtual testbed for future ship design for decarbonization. In reality, the DT architecture and its application framework will serve as a virtual testbed for the development of various ship types, with wind-assisted propulsion ships serving as the validation and verification test cases. The project’s main goals will be to investigate DT applications in sustainable and digital ship design, to develop DT based on a specific architecture and application framework for wind-assisted propulsion ships, and to implement the developed digital twin to analyze the impact of decarbonization technologies (with a focus on sails).
Deadline: December 15, 2023
03) PhD Degree Scholarships [Fully Funded]
PhD position summary/title: Doctoral student in machine learning for non-Newtonian turbulence
The purpose of this research is to apply machine learning to create wall models in non-Newtonian flows to achieve high Reynolds numbers with great accuracy and a cheap computing cost. We will utilize deep reinforcement learning in particular to create the wall model in a way that is compatible with the flow and the numbers. We will also use the created wall model to simulate viscoelastic flow in more sophisticated settings. The researcher will have access to KTH’s multi-petascale supercomputing resources, as well as the Swedish e-Science Research Centre and the superb research environment FLOW.
Deadline: December 11, 2023
