(03) PhD Degree, Fully Funded

PhD position summary/title: PhD fellowship in Muscle Cell Biology at the Department of Biomedical Sciences

Critically sick patients are treated in dedicated intensive care units. Because of advances in critical care treatment, the majority of these patients now survive and are eventually discharged from the hospital. Despite this, patients’ physical function is frequently significantly affected for extended periods following hospital discharge, impairing their capacity to work and having a significant impact on healthcare resources. This extended loss of physical function has been attributed mostly to “critical illness myopathy.” The current effort seeks to identify the precise cellular and molecular pathways behind the critical disease myopathy. We will use several cell-based tests, X-ray diffraction, and proteomics to deep phenotype human muscle samples.
